Love to see how well they depicted a year 2 Batman. His fear of gliding off a building, having to put on an entirely separate covering to glide, nearly hitting the building, and finally not aiming where to land perfectly. There is beauty in seeing Batman grow instead of him being good at everything from the get go.

Kian Hall
Kian Hall 6 gün önce
@Zivcoul 95 that’s not how fear works genius😂 he overcame his fear of bats by becoming one, yes, but that’s just his fear of bats, that doesn’t affect his natural instinctive fear response. Your body responds to danger through fear response. When you almost fall to your death, your body responds through fear, it’s a defence mechanism. It’s called being realistic, I don’t care who he is, anyone would react the same in that situation. Batman’s humanity is what makes him so interesting, if he acts likes he’s devoid of all feeling, both mental and physical, then it’s not interesting.

@Ginola H I'm not the biggest fan of how they are doing that recently, but diversity is important. I'm more of a fan of creating new characters, that way writers can bring more diverse culture to the table, like how Kamala Kans uniform is heavily influenced by her Muslim culture. You also have Miles Morales, playing the recent game really felt like the developers where passionate about showing his culture to the player and how his Harlem was shown as a great community of people who keep his secret identity in the end "Did you see his face, who is he? That guy... He's our Spider-Man!" That's something we never would have gotten if they had just changed Peter Parkers skin and called it a day. I know diversity is a great thing to have and it's much easier to talk about creating popular characters than actually doing it, but it just feels cheap and unloved when you just shift someone's pigmentation and call it day, instead of actually taking the time to write out and develop a new character who will bring that much needed diversity on more levels than just aesthetics. Just to note about this version of Jim Gordon I think he's great, much better portrayal than the previous live action ones and really shows the friendship between himself and Batman during Batman's early years.

It's more pathetic when the movie tries to make him a badass but he still looks like a bumbling idiot every now and then (i.e., Christian Bale Batman, Michael Keaton, and sometimes Batfleck (although that's mostly in Josstice League tbh) Especially with BatBale though, dude got it the most rough T_T

@The Strong considering your understanding of a Batman is that he should always be “strong” is a sign you don’t understand Batman’s character. You just know him as a “badass with prep time.” Batman argues with Alfred in the comics. You should read them. Matt Reeves definitely did.

Gordan curling his lip and hitting Batman's chest to seem like he's pissed at him in front of the rest of the station is such a nice detail.

@Division Agent Bailey exactly. But since most of these films are so hamfisted and obvious, the moment something isn't 100% spelled out during a scene, the viewers are like "woah look how subtle that was!!"
Division Agent Bailey
Division Agent Bailey 9 gün önce
@Romil People be trying to sound so profound while film critiquing. Lol bruh a small attention to detail is usually a detail that isn’t necessary but is appreciated nonetheless. Like how when Riddler got a arrested they said “take him to Blackgate” which is a well known prison in Batman lore. All in my opinion of course.
Romil 12 gün önce
@Piero Minaya Rojas Yes, and this isn't one. The entire point of the scene is Gordon trying to look like he's arguing with Batman while secretly helping him. Something going on at the very surface level of a scene is not a "small detail" lmao

O-Wolf 13 gün önce
He told him to take the roof because it's his only way out of the building.. I doubt he thought he'd take a flying leap he probly thought he'd take a fire escape or something 😂
LPJZ456 14 gün önce
If I were him I'd rationalize that someone who dresses up like a bat could probably do something with falling or flying so roof probably was best last resort all things considered
Nic Bam
Nic Bam 15 gün önce
It's a valid point; Gordon knows enough about Batman after two years to know he's resilient and prepared for a lot, including what to do when needing to get off a rooftop or very high places. It'd be easy to figure out that Batman spends a lot of time in heights where ordinary people don't go. Also, obviously (the intelligent man he is, who has gadgets for many things) would have considered needing a way to survive jumping from a roof or skyscraper.
Cactus Malone
Cactus Malone 15 gün önce
I doubt Gordon had any idea what Batman might have done from that point, it was simply the only option for escape and he trusted that Batman always finds a way
j. 16 gün önce
maybe he knew batman had a wingsuit ready? They've been working together for two years and they have a pretty close work relationship, they trust each other to an extent

I love how badass this version of Batman is. Surrounded and completely outnumbered by enemies at the time (with the exception of Gordan), trapped inside their confined territory, yet he isnt giving a dam or holding back in the slightest. An absolute masterpiece of a scene. From the moment they had an unconcious Batman on the table, to when he woke up and chaos ensued, all the way to this. One of my favourite scenes from what I consider to be the best Batman movie to date (narrowly edging out The Dark Knight).

And that's acting, because Pattinson has no fear of heights. He's jumped out of a plane, parachuting when he was in Australia, and he did most of his own stunts in Tenet, and John David Washington is afraid of heights. He said he "took his courage" from Rob, because Rob was fearless about their stunts where they had to jump off a building.

I love how this Batman is so real, and human. He doesn't do some sort of weird disappearing act like Bale's James Bond-like Batman does, he has to run. And, he has fear, like any man would have if he had to jump off a building with a bunch of cops running after to murder him. Loved this movie a lot.

Spaced92 12 gün önce
De mythologising Batman is really fresh when you look at every other serious Batman movie. Tim Burton made him into a pseudo horror character, Nolans Batman made him into more of an idea that doesn't grow it just reinforces itself across the trilogy (even his setback in TDKR is overcome by Bruce's freakish belief in his own creation). Reeves Batman has an actual character arc that needs to be expounded on in the sequel (whereas Batmans character in 89' and Begins were largely ignored in sequels), they show Bruce Wayne less than ever but you see him more in his Batman IMO.

Really like how they used a wingsuit that looks really hard to control instead of the traditional cape to glide. Cos when Batman glides with the cape in the other movies it's always a triumphant moment where he's in total control. The wingsuit gets across a better idea of this Batman's uncertainty and risk.

When he landed severely, I was slightly disappointed when I first watched it in the theatre. But, then, I remembered that this was his second year as a vigilante. Watching this film in IMAX was the best thing I ever experienced, especially this scene, the music and cinematography is just perfection, also Batman crashing on 2:05 was a real stunt

I love how hardboiled noir the dialogue in this movie is. It makes it feel straight out of the comics or something. "who's the mustache with the broken nose?" Is one of my favorite lines in any batman movies, its just so delicious and noir.

This shows that after all Batman is a human with no super natural abilities. He has fear, he falls, he feels pain, but the thing which is important is that he still fights for justice, he LEARNS FROM HIS MISTAKES, and strive to do better every day. He is the Knight, He is Vengeance, He is BATMAN.

The hesitation and the poor landing are nice indicators that this is a year two Batman. Also the events of this scene is the reason why Batman isn't called to investigate at Wayne Tower later on. To the complaint he would not survive this, I say Rhody should have been jelly after falling in the War Machine suit in Civil War. It's a comic book movie based on a fictional character.

Everyone wants a batman without fear of jumping from great heights, flying without any problem and and landing like a hero, the problem here is that those who ask for it and complain about this batman would not have the balls to do what he did

@Zach 1993 that's not a different take then that's just reusing a take someone else made and true spiderman fans are fine with changes to a character as long as it makes sense in the context of that storyline/universe same with batman fans rami fanboys are different if anything is slightly different the rami films they get pissed off

@Erick Cross No one wants a 'different take' on a beloved character like Batman. We just want him adapted properly for once.
Zach 1993
Zach 1993 9 gün önce
@Mr. Scott Maybe because if you're going to do a 'different take' you should at least keep core elements of the character you're doing. Those aren't Raimi fanboys you're talking about, they're Spider-Man fans. Just like the people pointing out the flaws in The Batman are genuine Batman fans.

one of my favorite scenes of the movie. it shows just how inexperienced batman still is after two years. it also makes the movie feel more authentic unlike the dark knight gliding over gotham's rooftops like he was born a bird or something...

Gotta say that this is like a more grow-up style of Batman movie. I love the trilogy, but growing up it become kindda cartoonist. This one blending realism and fiction together so well that it become more relatable and believeable. Nothing too crazy but not boring. The most important thing is Batman is not perfect like in other movie or comic. He is still a human. He feels fear, make mistakes, and no too all-purpose gadgets. Just a crazy man doing crazy things for his city and people. Love it!

Great comment I agree although sadly the comics have taken a completely different direction. It seems Batmans limits have receded to the point where he’s basically Spider-Man. He’s kicked a tree in half without wearing the suit! He’s ripped doors of a jet whilst in flight. A JET!! and he’s held his breath in space for less then a minute. Man simplicity has gone out the window. This is why I prefer the films not because their “realistic” but because they represent the essence of the character at heart.

I love how this version of Batman doesn’t know how to glide doesn’t have that full gliding effect like he always does I love how new to this he is and how easily hurt he gets it’s literally my favorite Batman to date prolly this is the type of Batman I was dying to see a dark grim bloody masterpiece

I mean it took him a bit to get up, and when he did he limped off into an alley. But yeah, I doubt even with the body armor someone IRL wouldn't have straight-up died from that.

I was playing the Riddler Flight School challenge in Arkham Knight after seeing this movie and one of Riddler's dialogues was about how bats are the only mammals that fly but since Batman only glides, he's actually a kind of squirrel. It made me remember this scene, lol.

I love how this Batman is simeltaneously badass but at the same time inexperienced, he hesitates before flying, he kind of f*cks up parts of his investigation, he gets hurt, he has a hard time socialising, etc. etc. Very refreshing to see Batman who's flawed, still a force of nature but at the same time reminded that he's a human being.

Only 7 times? Pfff. You cannot be considered a Batman fan at all. To be a true admirer of this timeless piece of art, you needed to watch at least 3 times a day when it was in theaters. 9 hours of your day for a few months is nothing compared to what this movie represents to us as human beings on this lonely blue sphere in the great expanse.

Aside from the end where he ricochets off the bus and lives, I feel like this is the most physically realistic protrayal of Batman. He didn't just vanish when know one was looking, he had to sprint down the hallway. Imagine trying to grapple up the height of a building. The acceleration would put so much strain on ur arm if not just dislocate it entirely. Pattinson sells the difficulty in holding on to the grapple gun. The glide omg. I've seen those extreme gliders in real life and they go fast! It's not like the Arkham games where u glide gracefully ahaha This was my favorite sequence in the film
